Appeal filed by ex-Wembley employees

Two former executives of gaming and greyhound track operator Wembley have filed notices of appeal against their jail sentences following convictions for conspiring to bribe a US politician.

In August, former chief executive Nigel Potter and former general manager of the Lincoln Park track Daniel Bucci were convicted of conspiring to bribe a law firm with up to US$4m (£2.3m, 3.3m euro) in a bid to get 1,000 more video lottery machines installed at Lincoln Park and block a rival Indian casino.

On 28 October, Potter was sentenced to three years in prison by a federal court while Bucci received three years and five months.

The Lincoln Park operation was also found guilty of wire fraud and fined US$1.5m (£846,000, 1.2m euro) in what the judge reportedly described as one of the “saddest chapters” in the state’s history.

Earlier this year, Wembley sold Lincoln Park to consortium BLB Investors. Wembley has now been wound up.
