Philippe Starck fuses design, technology and energy performance with modular, app-controlled heating furniture

The SPEETBOX modules are customisable
Designer and architect Philippe Starck and French company Speeta have created a modular, app-controlled wood burning stove collection.

SPEETBOX BY S+ARCK is a collection of customisable, environmentally-friendly heating furniture, which can be adjusted to suit the needs of the venue.

Designed to be a unique, scalable and highly adaptable heating solution, the boxes around the wood-burning stove can be arranged in many possible combinations.

The room temperature, hot air distribution, power and speed of combustion, control of lighting and electrical outlets and even the analysis of the stove's flue emissions are all programmable and controllable using the SPEETBOX BY S+ARCK app available on Android, and soon on the AppStore.

The heating furniture revolves around an airtight 5.5 kW wood stove, fitted with a steel hearth. The design of the hearth allows for burning 30cm-long logs and almost all residues produced by this combustion, thus improving energy efficiency and promoting clean combustion.

Speeta says it produces almost three times less dust than a conventional stove and limits CO emissions associated with burning wood compared to those of a conventional stove.

The stove has been developed to work with or without electricity, and the SPEETbooster electronic start assist system optimises combustion and heat delivery.

"With SPEETBOX BY S+ARCK, we wanted to design something more than a simple woodburning stove. It is a genuine piece of high performance heating furniture, embedded with all the latest technology to satisfy eco-responsible requirements." Guillaume Boutte, SPEETA chairman.

The collection also consists of two types of LED-lit optional cubic modules (50x50cm) - boxes - which provide specific and additional features.

A box filled with stones accumulates heat during the heating phase and gradually diffuses it for more than 24 hours once the stove has been stopped, in contrast with only a few hours for a fireplace or conventional wood-burning stove.

A storage box has been specifically designed to store and dry wood. However, it may also be used as a stool fitted with a cushion or as a shelf in a composition of several modules where books and objects can be stored.

Specifically designed for the SPEETBOX collection, a shovel, tongs and brush, with minimalist and elegant design, are stored in the thickness of the door.
