Taylor Made Designs supports school project

Taylor Made Designs has donated school uniform to children at Jambo Jipya, an African school project in Kenya, which provides shelter and access to education in a desolate and famine-ridden environment.

The clothing and merchandise company supplied 140 polo-shirts, 11 navy and 11 red football shorts, plus four umbrellas for the staff.

Each shirt and umbrella was embroidered with the Jambo Jipya logo, designed by the volunteers who visit the centre from across the world. In addition, Taylor Made Designs will be donating a further 150 satchels in the autumn.

Jambo Jipya is a day home for 117 children that come from disadvantaged backgrounds, orphaned by AIDS, mothers working as prostitutes or simply parents with not enough money to buy food.

The project receives no financial support from parents so donations from organisations such as Taylor Made Designs make a huge contribution towards helping rebuild the centre and allowing it to expand to let more children benefit from its facilities.

Lucy Hardwick, a volunteer for Jambo Jipya, said: "The polo shirts are absolutely fantastic - a tremendous help to the school, particularly because families cannot even afford to pay Ksh500 (£5 approx.) for a child to attend nursery school or afford school uniforms.

"Previously the children had just one white shirt with red shorts or skirts. Now with the yellow polo shirts there is a real sense of identity and for some of them it means they now own two tops.

"I had been donated 22 football shirts by a lady before I went out to Kenya and James kindly provided 22 pairs of shorts to go with them. The children were delighted - it was the first time they had ever played football knowing who was in which team!”

James Taylor, Managing Director at Taylor Made Designs, said: "We’re delighted to have donated clothing to the school children and to see what a significant difference it has already made.

"We will be giving more schoolwear to the children later this year and look forward to hearing how it’s helping their everyday lives."
