Exer-gaming prototype unveiled

The first operational 'exer-gaming' system was unveiled to attendees of the Fitness Forum conference recently.

A production prototype of the GymPilot system was demonstrated for the first time at the convention, showing how an exercise machine can incorporate a personalised interactive game experience by using a body mapping technology based on Animazoo (UK)'s motion-capture hardware for film and video game development.

The GymPilot has been developed to offer a means of getting the hardest part of the audience - defined by Animazoo as 'the lazy geek' - to undertake much needed exercise without the problems of non-interactive exercise machines.

The new technology allows the exercise machine to focus on particular muscle groups for each one of its segments - biceps, triceps, shoulder flexion, etc - and then linking a user's movements to interactive content.

The Fitness Forum demo showed the hardware in operation, the presentation being aimed at anyone interested in discussing manufacturing and licencing opportunities.
