National success for Sheffield slide design

A Sheffield sports centre manager's inflatable slide design is being floated across the UK.
Greg Henshaw, Operations Manager at Concord Sports Centre, created the Aqua Glide slide for the Sheffield International Venues-managed facility's swimming pool, with the bespoke design being produced for the centre by air structures and inflatables company, Airquee.
The colourful slide, which anchors at the edge of the pool, allows children to take a 2m run-up on a non-slip mat and then glide along a 6m inflatable bed before landing into the pool.
Henshaw says: “We wanted to provide them with a fun inflatable play slide to use during the school holidays, but due to the dimensions of our pool, a standard design was difficult to install.
“As an alternative, I sketched down a few different ideas, sent the drawings off to Airquee and they produced a real life version for us. It's proved so popular that the company is now selling the model to other leisure centres.”
The slide is now in use at Concord Sports Centre (0114 257 0053, www.concordsportscentre.co.uk) every weekend and during the school holidays.
