A 100 million euro masterplan has been unveiled for the development of a tourist destination at Lanterna, near the Istrian city of Porec in Croatia.
The masterplan came about when one of Croatia’s largest tourism companies, Riviera Holding Porec – which owns two hotels, an apartment village comprising 750 units and a settlement of 88 luxury villas complete with restaurants, shops and sports facilities, all between Novigrad and Porec – realised that further investment in the area would be risky without a long-term plan for the re-development of the Lanterna peninsular and its tourism offering.
The masterplan, which will take six to 10 years to implement, includes schemes to attract high-spending tourists by providing a new hotel as well as other four-star accommodation. Parks and buildings will be designed to reflect the Istrian region and plans for infrastructure and traffic have been devised.
Following an international tender, Masterplan Lanterna was produced by US-based planning and design company, Sasaki Associates of Boston.
Riveria’s owners, DOM Holding and SN Holding have been advised by Horwath Consulting Zagreb.
