Singapore’s authorities have repealed the ban that prevented drinkers from dancing on bar tops.

The regulation was dropped from midnight on 1 August and bars around Singapore organised celebratory parties.

The authorities believed that the bar top dancing ban prevented people from injuring themselves, although other government ministers believed the ban stopped potential violence breaking out as men watched women’s legs.

The lifting of this ban is seen as proof that the Singapore government is beginning to relax some of the country’s more archaic rules and regulations, spurred on by the government’s aim to make Singaporeans more risk-taking and creative for the new century.
