A 'world-class' aquarium, offering visitors 'spectacular habitats' and unique, immersive exhibits will open in Canada in 2024.

Called Aquarium de Montréal, the attraction is being developed – and will be operated – by Montreal-based Ecorecreo Group, which specialises in the development and operation of creative, outdoor, and environmentally-friendly attractions and activities. The group operates attractions under six brands across 16 summer and winter sites in the province of Quebec.

Ecorecreo says the focus of Aquarium de Montréal will be to lead with innovation and to offer experiences for guests of all ages and abilities.

The attraction will be located in Royalmount, a new Montreal destination in the heart of midtown, where connectivity, creativity, and sustainability are emphasised.

Ecrecreo is working with B+H Architectes Montréal and QMD on the project.

Nicolas Gosselin, general manager of Aquarium de Montréal, said: "Our vision of the Aquarium de Montréal is to create an unforgettable journey that celebrates healthy marine and freshwater environments, while also highlighting uncompromised animal care and the importance of conservation action.

“Our team is focused on creating an adventure, transforming the way our guests view their relationship with nature.

"We will educate the community every step of the way and inspire future generations to become advocates of our wildlife and wild places.”

According to Jean-Philippe Duchesneau, co-owner of Ecorecreo Group, the company will pursue the "highest sustainable standards possible" throughout the project’s construction and operation.

Duchesneau said: “We are most proud to lead this project and look forward to unveiling more details as we continue down the exciting path of bringing our Aquarium to life.

"We can’t wait for Montrealers and visitors to live our aquarium experience.”

In 2015, Ecorecreo launched Voiles en Voiles in the Old Port of Montreal, an adventure park set in a World of Pirates and Explorers.
