Large, lavish spa opens in newly branded Reno casino hotel

The Spa at Silver Legacy has opened in northern Nevada, US as part of The Row’s US$100m renovation of the newly branded destination in Reno, which takes up six contiguous city blocks and unites the Eldorado Resort Casino, Circus Circus Reno and Silver Legacy Resort Casino.

Designed to celebrate the Reno and Tahoe areas through holistic spa treatments, innovative architecture, local purveyors and signature scents mixed from indigenous plants The 21,000sq ft (1,951sq m) spa includes three couples treatment rooms, four individual treatment rooms, five facial treatment rooms, three relaxation lounges, a salt inhalation chamber, seven hydrotherapy tubs, two steam rooms and two saunas.

Two private hospitality suites can be booked for bachelorette parties, bridal parties and other special events, and the spa also includes a salon, boutique and fitness centre with virtual reality trails from state-of-the-art Technogym equipment.

“I’ve opened lavish spas across the country and The Spa at Silver Legacy has an unparalleled majesty,” said George Powell-Lopez, director of spa and wellness at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino. “The experience at The Spa far exceeds the treatments themselves, offering a holistic, unmistakable progression of wellness from the moment the elevator doors open.”

Powell-Lopez is joined by spa operations manager Christina Alexander and spa therapist supervisor Melinda Craig, offering over 45 years of combined experience in health and wellness.

Alexander’s background in business management and marketing complements her 19 years of experience in wellness, hospitality and customer service. She managed the spa at the Ritz Carlton, Lake Tahoe and was the general manager of a local casino resort spa.
“Perfection in hospitality and service is what people remember,” said Alexander. “Here at The Spa at Silver Legacy, we excel in the details. Each treatment is thoughtfully crafted and specifically designed for the guest.”

Craig, a licensed massage therapist, has worked in various Reno spas and physical therapy centres since 2008, specialising in hot stone, deep tissue, Swedish and sports massage, body scrubs and wraps. Craig was the lead massage therapist at Silver Legacy’s previous health centre and has 18 years of experience in body work, massage therapy and customer service.

Upon entrance, guests breathe in the custom-made aromas of white pine Coco La Vie candles, mixed with indigenous flora and fauna.

“We want guests to feel serene and relaxed from the moment they walk inside,” said Bill Gustafson, vice president and general manager of The Row.. “The architecture lures the guest from an intimate lobby setting to the grandeur of the city and mountain-scape, and along to peaceful relaxation areas.”

Once guests are escorted to a relaxation room, a spa concierge offers complimentary tea service by Davidson’s Organics, selected to enhance specific treatments.

Spa attendants provide recommended teas for each service. The signature Fiery Snow Massage, which incorporates traditional hot stone therapy and white cold marble stone chasers, is paired with Rooibos Chai Tea and is served in a marble tea kettle for two with mini almond biscotti.

The Dirty Mess Detoxifying Body Treatment — an exfoliation with volcanic pumice and Coffee Arabica, a warm wrap with mineral-rich black silt clay and herbal extracts of Indian sarsaparilla and honey — is served with Mellow Mint Tulsi for a continued detox.
As guests enjoy the relaxation rooms, they are encouraged to visit the Salt of the Earth blending bar to create a personalised salt scrub, which can be used in their treatment or taken home.

The salt inhalation chamber, designed to counteract the arid Nevada climate, allows guests to inhale negatively-charged ions to reduce inflammation and improve respiratory health.

“The healing begins in the relaxation rooms,” said Powell-Lopez. “Indoor and outdoor hot tubs offer a reverse cryogenic experience and salt inhalation has been proven to re-moisturise skin.”

Skincare lines at The Spa include Sorella Apothecary, a botanic skincare company based in Reno; OM4 Men, a natural and organic product line designed specifically for men; and Naturopathica facial and body treatment products.

After The Spa treatment has finished, guests are invited to enjoy the various amenities of the indoor-outdoor space, including an al fresco natatorium — a balcony pool with panoramic mountain views, cabanas and a fire feature.
