Hysol passes the gridiron test

Aldershot's Army Rugby Stadium has taken part in a ground-sharing initiative with a British American Football League (BAFL) team.

The move was made by BAFL Division 1 team, Farnham MH Knights in an effort to get more of the league's top teams into stadiums and allow more spectators to follow the sport.

However, while hosting multiple sports on a single ground is efficient it can cause problems with different pitch markings, particularly so with the yard lines and hash marks - known as the 'gridiron' - characteristic of American Football.

As things turned out, initial concerns by the stadium about using traditional 'green out' paint on the Army's premier rugby pitch were overcome with the use of a new grass marking paint from HMG.

The company's Hysol product is a water-soluble grass paint that can be hosed off after use but which is claimed to be able to withstand rain, abrasion and other match conditions with little effect.

Available in standard line marking white, the new formulation is completely soluble, leaves no residual lines and doesn't damage the grass, although it can be equally applied to virtually any substrate.
