IAAPA saw the world premiere by Skytrack of its new Airballs®© indoor ride, a launch which was followed by another appearance at the Euro Attraction Show in Seville recently.

Based on a larger-than-lifesize pinball game, it has a unique transport system which lets seated riders glide through it on a cushion of air. After being accelerated rapidly into the game, riders have control over two flippers which can send the seat back into the ride, just like the real thing.

The seats are moved by currents of air forced through special units in the floor of the game, which not only creates a 'cushion' for them to ride on (a system on which worldwide patents are pending) but also introduces a degree of unpredictability which means no two rides are the same. The ride's speed is variable so it is suitable for all ages.

Airballs isn't dependent on any particular size or format so it can fit into any available space or shape. The smallest setup is about 10 x 20m/32.5 x 65ft, whilst the maximum size is almost unlimited. The concept also presents a wide range of possibilities for decoration and sound effects, so it can be made to complement a park's existing theme.

The seats can be configured for one, two or more riders and it's possible to specify a version in which two seats can travel through the game simultaneously.

Skytrack says that production models are scheduled to be ready from September.
